It is with great sadness we share the news of the passing of Allan Grealis, long-time volunteer and friend to many at The Bluffs Food Bank.
Allan began volunteering with the food bank in 2003 – the year it opened – and continued through 2016. He fit in well with the ethos of The Bluffs Food Bank, having a genuine heart to help feed the hungry. His understanding of the needs of homeless clients led directly to the creation of grocery hampers assembled specifically to serve them. He unselfishly shared his time and energy volunteering on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Mondays taking on tasks that kept the food banks doors open and able to serve clients.
In particular, his ideas for developing and implementing new operational systems as the food bank grew from serving 24 families our first week to over 350 families today was just one of his gifts that set him apart.
Allan served faithfully until health reasons sidelined him from actively participating in 2016, but he continued to stop by, visit and check in on the food bank.
Allan, we will miss you.
Allan’s family has requested that memorial donations be made to The Bluffs Food Bank.
